Gervonta Davis And Ryan Garcia Go Back And Forth Over Drug Testing

The saga between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia took yet another turn this week, stemming from a since deleted social media tirade from Davis.

Davis took to Twitter and seemed to insinuate he was concerned about the possibility of Garcia cheating, citing the apparent lack of VADA testing in their fight which is agreed in principle for spring of next year.

Eddie Hearn also received smoke from Davis, as the American questioned why Hearn hadn’t been “banned from boxing” after the fallout regarding Conor Benn’s failed drug test ahead of his doomed fight with Chris Eubank Jr in October.

Garcia responded, saying that there was no problem with any drug testing requested.

‘Tank’ will need to get through his fight with Hector Luis Garcia in January before terms can be finalised for a mega fight with the latter’s namesake afterwards.

However, ‘El Androide’ is undefeated and recently scored an upset win over Chris Colbert so will go into the fight with Davis with plenty of confidence he can scupper the plans for a showdown between the two young stars.

As for ‘King Ry,’ he is expected to soon confirm a date for January himself, with Mercito Gesta the likely opponent for either the 21st or 28th in Austin, Texas.

Fans will be praying the pair come through their respective January contests unscathed. Many thought the fight would have to be consigned to the scrap heap after a drawn out negotiation process that saw numerous social media spats between Davis and Garcia.

However, after broadcast and promotional barriers were eventually overcome, it seems the last piece of the puzzle is simply for both fighters to avoid defeat in the opening stanza of 2023.
