After an insane run of events in recent weeks, the focal fight night of June is undoubtedly the return of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who headlines against undefeated countryman Frank Martin. As the two American’s put their unbeaten records on the line, the card has been confirmed as a pay-per-view one for fans in the United Kingdom, with a price and broadcaster now revealed.
The self-proclaimed ‘face of boxing’, Davis knocked out Ryan Garcia in the highest-profile encounter of his career to date, when they met last April, but is yet to fight since.
During that 14-month run of inactivity, Davis has however been upgraded from WBA (Regular) lightweight champion to the full WBA champion, following Devin Haney’s decision to vacate his undisputed title and move up to super-lightweight.
Meanwhile, Frank Martin edged out a win over Germany’s Artrem Harutyunyan in his last appearance inside of the ring back in July 2023, with both Martin and Harutyunyan being given world title shots in their very next fights, as the latter gears up to take on Shakur Stevenson on July 6th for the WBC 135lb crown.
Each of Davis, Stevenson, Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3) and Denys Berinchyk (19-0) are expected to put their world titles on the line in upcoming unification bouts in the near future, as the lightweight scene hopes to decide a new undisputed champion.
However, before ‘Tank’ can eye up more belts, he first begins his reign against Martin in what has now been confirmed as a U.K. pay-per-view.
“Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin and David Benavidez vs Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15th will be shown live on Amazon Prime Video PPV in the UK, price £19.99.”
The announcement was met with criticism from fans, who fear that their will be minimal pay-per-view buys from the United Kingdom. Although, the undercard is certainly a worthy watch, with a further three title bouts before the main-event.
In the co-main event, former super-middleweight champion David Benavidez (28-0) makes his debut at light-heavyweight, as he challenges Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1) for the WBC interim belt. Whereas Gary Antuanne Russell (17-0) fights Alberto Puello (22-0) for another WBC interim strap, this one being in the super-lightweight division.
Like Gervonta Davis, Carlos Adames (23-1) will make a first defence of his world title, after he was upgraded to WBC middleweight champion earlier this year, following the decision to finally strip Jermall Charlo – who hadn’t defended the title since June 2021.
Adames will fight Terrell Gausha (24-3-1), who lost out to Erislandy Lara in his only title challenge to date but gave a spirited performance when he was outpointed by Tim Tszyu in 2022 and has registered two victories in his two fights since.
Also appearing on the card is highly-rated 21-year-old middleweight prospect Elijah Garcia (16-0), as well as former featherweight world champion Mark Magsayo (25-2), seven months after his knockout of the year contender against Isaac Avelar on his debut in the super-featherweight division.
