Hector Luis Garcia has spoken out about his fight with Gervonta Davis next month, and claims talk of him being simply a tune up for Davis has given him added motivation for the contest.
Davis already has a mega fight with Ryan Garcia agreed in principle for spring 2023, and will face ‘KingRy’s namesake, Hector, on January 7 in what will be his first outing since May.
However, ‘El Androide’ told FightHype he has all the tools to upset the applecart and derail the plans for the two young Americans.
“Maybe he’s looking at me like a warm up fight or tune up fight, that motivates me.”
“But at the end of the day, that’s something that he has to worry about – not me. I have a lot of advantages that people may not realise, and those advantages will show up in the ring.”
Despite not having the biggest profile, Garcia is an accomplished fighter and is the current WBA super featherweight champion of the world, having dethroned Roger Gutierrez earlier this year.
The fight against Davis will be Garcia’s first up in weight at 135lbs and ‘Tank’ will almost certainly be the biggest puncher he has faced.
Three weight world champion Davis has only went the distance in two of his 25 professional victories and is widely heralded as one of the most prolific knock out artists in boxing.
As for Ryan Garcia, he announced last week he would be foregoing a tune up fight in January and instead would be jumping straight into the blockbuster with Davis.
