Gervonta Davis is confident that Ryan Garcia will be on his record as the 27th stoppage.
Davis and Garcia are just weeks away from their 136lb catchweight bout, and with 45 knockouts between them, not many punters will be betting on it going the distance.
The contest has all the ingredients to be a throwback fight the likes of which boxing fans are so often deprived of in the modern era.
And, just like Muhammad Ali would do back in the day, Davis has predicted the rounds in which he thinks the fight will be done with. He told Fight Hub TV that it would go just past the halfway stage, and ensured fans he wasn’t looking to hang about.
“Seven or eighth round. Figure him out a little bit and then [knock him out.] I ain’t gonna lie I’m gonna get to the point on this fight. I just wanna show him he ain’t that person.”
The boxer from Baltimore then responded to Garcia’s comments that he was ‘too small’ to throw straight punches, firing back with his own assessment.
“Y’all wait and see. He’s gonna be surprised though, for sure. His reach is not that much longer than mine, so he needs to shut the hell up.
Looking back on it, he looks good against people that he’s supposed to look good against. I’ve never seen somebody that he fought or somebody that he sparred that’s come out and said he’s like top level.”
The two undefeated stars face off as the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas on April 22. The box office event will be available on Showtime and DAZN PPV in the US, and DAZN’s regular subscription in the UK.
