Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has been heavily linked to a fight with IBF Lightweight Champion Vasyl Lomachenko, and now the WBA Champion’s co-trainer has given a brutal opinion on the potential fight.
Amidst the fight week for Davis’s victory over Frank Martin earlier in the month, Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum revealed that negotiations were underway regarding a huge unification clash between the pair.
Following ‘Tank’s brutal stoppage of Martin, Arum said that talks were set to resume in the coming weeks, with many in the industry sharing their predictions for the bout.
Davis’s co-trainer Kenny Ellis took to social media to share his thoughts on the heavily speculated bout, claiming on his Instagram Story that he has been studying Lomachenko, and doesn’t believe the three-weight world champion would see the 12th round with Davis.
“Phase #3 Studaying Lomachenko, why all of a sudden these Lomachenko highlight videos are popping up? Are they supposed to be intimidating or someting? He won’t see the 12th round with Gervonta Davis.”
Davis has only once gone the full 12 rounds, and that was against the current WBA Super-Lightweight champion Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in December 2021. The only other time ‘Tank’ saw the 12th round, he stopped Yuriorkis Gamboa in the final stanza to claim his WBA Lightweight title. Davis clearly carries dynamite power, stopping 28 of his 30 opponents.
Lomachenko claimed the vacant IBF title last time out, travelling to Australia to stop George Kambosos Jr in May. The Ukranian has succumbed to three losses in his 21 fight career, two of which being in lightweight world titles against Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney, the other coming in a featherweight world title shot in just his second professional fight against Orlando Salido.
The Ukranian has also never been stopped in professional ranks, but now potentially faces a knockout artist in Gervonta Davis.
There is no word on the date and venue for this potential unification clash as of yet, as talks between Top Rank and PBC continue.
