Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia have declared that one of the biggest fights in boxing is a done deal.
The announcement – made by both fighters – follows yet another period of will-they-won’t-they where they have claimed they want the fight, but promotional teams have seemingly stood in the way. Well, not anymore…
Whilst neither ‘Tank’ or ‘KingRy’ provided a specific date, they both cited Las Vegas as the location and 2023 as the year.
The rumoured date for the bout is April 15th, and it’s reportedly to be fought at a catchweight of 136lb.
Davis confirmed that he will still be in the ring on January 7 in Washington DC, but that he had signed to face Garcia in his following fight.
Garcia posted a message alongside his announcement that championed the best fighting the best.
I’m so pumped this fight is finally in place — I want it more than anything right now. I’ve put in the work, I’m at the prime of my career, and I know I’m going to be the biggest boxer in the world. That legacy starts today.
Boxing NEEDS this fight right now. It’s time for us to get back to what made this sport so great for the fans: Glamorous fights in places like Las Vegas, grudge match storylines, and most importantly — the best fighting the best.
I love connecting with new, young fans, and know that I can bring a new generation into the most beautiful sport in the world. It’s time to get to work, and show everyone what boxing is all about…

As for ‘Tank’, a man of much fewer words, he said tell them to get the ‘brink’ – or armoured – trucks ready.
Davis will step through the ropes with a record of 27 wins from 27 fights. Garcia is also undefeated in 24, and the pair combined have 44 knockouts.
The fight will see PBC and Golden Boy Promotions working hand-in-hand to deliver one of the best fights the lightweight division, and the sport of boxing as a whole, can offer right now.
Joe Markowski, CEO at DAZN Group, followed the fight announcement with his own. DAZN are partnered with Golden Boy and have exclusive rights to Garcia events.
“As we’ve always said, DAZN will look to broadcast the biggest fights in boxing. We’ve worked tirelessly with our friends at Golden Boy, Showtime and Team Davis on a deal structure that suits all parties for [Davis and Garcia.]
“Everyone at DAZN is thrilled that an agreement in principle has been reached between the parties. That agreement is subject to contract, which are yet to be exchanged.”
Boxing is boxing, which means that many things can still happen to derail this train. Having said that, the news comes at the tail end of a year that saw many super fights fall through – so fans should allow themselves to celebrate this one for now.
