Opening Odds Make Ryan Garcia Big Underdog Against Gervonta Davis

After the official announcement of one of the must-see fights of 2023, the odds have now been released for Gervonta Davis’ catchweight fight against Ryan Garcia.

‘Tank’ Davis has become recognised as one of the pound-for-pound, hardest punchers in the sport.

With twenty-six knockouts on his twenty-eight-fight unbeaten record and a whole heap of highlight-reel stoppages, Davis’ fearsome power is undoubtedly his biggest weapon.

Another advantage that ‘Tank’ has ahead of the fight is his activity, having fought Hector Luis Garcia in January, where he won by ninth round knockout.

Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia will have completed just six rounds in twelve months by the time he steps into the ring, as he impressed in a demolition job against Javier Fortuna back in July.

‘KingRy’ is also undefeated, boasting nineteen stoppages in his twenty-three fights, with his lightning speed continuing to cause problems for every opponent that he faces.

The bout is set at a catchweight of 136lbs, just one pound more than a standard lightweight fight, a weight which should suit Davis.

‘Tank’ held both the IBF and WBA super-featherweight world titles, and established himself as a lightweight in 2021, whilst Ryan Garcia moved up to the super-lightweight division last year and claimed that he would never fight at lightweight again.

The odds are favouring the power and weight advantage over the speed of Garcia, with William Hill pricing Gervonta Davis as a 1/3 (-300) favourite. Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia has been installed as the 5/2 (+250) underdog for the fight, despite being the quicker and bigger man.

The American duo will face off in the ring on April 22nd in Las Vegas, and it has been confirmed that Showtime will produce and broadcast the event but that it will also be available to purchase as a DAZN pay-per-view.
