IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin announced via social media that his December 29 unification with Ryota Murata has been postponed.
The pair were scheduled to meet on December 29 at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, live on DAZN.
With Japan imposing stricter travel rules in the wake of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, the bout has now been delayed until 2022.
“I am deeply disappointed that fight in Japan has been postponed but the health and safety of the public must always be the priority. I look forward to returning to the ring against Ryota as soon as possible,” Golovkin said in a brief statement.
