Devin Haney’s father and trainer has shut down questions about any comparisons to Floyd Mayweather.
Haney is one of the hottest talents in the sport right now, not least since his dismantling of Regis Prograis in December last year. The faultless showing saw him become the WBC champion at 140lbs having also previously become undisputed lightweight champion.
When another of those, Floyd Mayweather, came up in conversation recently, Devin’s father and coach Bill said to IFL TV not to compare the two.
“What Floyd didn’t do at 25, Devin did do. This is the Devin Haney era. Guess what? Floyd you can keep talking that money sh*t if you want to, yeah, there’s somebody coming for the Mount Rushmore of boxing and his name is Devin Haney.”
He went on to point out the strength of his son’s CV despite him still being so young.
“Yeah, two-division world champion, undisputed world champion, checking a bunch of money, man, and taking care of his team, man, about 25 [people]. And guess what? We ain’t had no problems with contracts, no disputes, no broadcasters, no none of that. This is the Devin Haney era. Don’t ever mention Floyd Mayweather to me.”
Mayweather has recently been seen with Garcia and Haney was quick to respond.
