Former WBA heavyweight and unified cruiserweight champion David Haye will make a surprise return against Joe Fournier on the Oscar De La Hoya vs Vitor Belfort PPV card at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 11, according to ESPN.com‘s Mike Coppinger.
Haye-Fournier will take place over eight rounds at heavyweight. It will count as a professionally-licensed contest.
An injury-ravaged Haye was last seen losing a second straight fight to Tony Bellew before retirement in May 2018. The 40-year-old later turned to boxing management and promotion, most notably with former opponent Dereck Chisora.
Nightclub entrepreneur Fournier is 9-0, 9 KOs as a light-heavyweight against modest opposition. He returned after a four-year hiatus to beat a debutant in April and previously fought on friend Haye’s promotions.
Also on the PPV show, former IBF title challenger Jono Carroll will face Andy Vences in a 130lbs bout originally scheduled for the undercard of the delayed clash between undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and IBF No.1 contender George Kambosos.
Meanwhile, former UFC stars Tito Ortiz and Anderson Silva will clash in an eight-round cruiserweight boxing match on the Triller-promoted event.
