It has been confirmed that Tony Bellew will fight December this year. Problem is, he still doesn’t have an opponent.
The Liverpudlian has been linked to several names including Andre Ward, Joseph Parker and even UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping.
Promoter Eddie Hearn shut down the Bisping-talk for now and confirmed that Bellew will fight on the 9th or 16th of December.
“Bisping.. I don’t think that’s happening. I think we keep Bellew away from the UFC,” said Hearn in an interview with IFL.TV.
The one fight on everyone’s mind is obviously David Haye. Hearn met with ‘The Haymaker’ recently and revealed some details about their meeting.
“We had a good chat. He tells us he wants the fight. And to be honest with you, the fight that Tony wants is David Haye. I know the fight that the public wants is David Haye as well,” he said.
The promoter has said on many occasion that this is a tough deal to make.
“But it’s just so hard. It’s like Tony never won the fight. They both gotta understand, Tony won deservedly but also with controversy, David hurting his Achilles. David has to realise that he didn’t do what he said he was gonna do and he lost the fight. He got stopped, he got knocked out,” told Hearn.
But it looks like he is definitely not done trying.
“If they can both understand that, realise that there is so much money to be made in a rematch. The good thing about his fight this time around is that you know it’s going to be a good fight. Before people were thinking it’s a mismatch. Now you actually know this is a real fight. I want to do it,” stated the promoter.
Bellew’s options are big no matter who he fights but it’s the public that you have to listen to according to Hearn.
“Tony has got options. Andre Ward, Joseph Parker, and other fights as well. But you always have to listen to demand and listen to the public. And the public wants to see Haye-Bellew or Bellew-Haye two.”
The situation with Bellew will most likely clarify a bit after September 23rd. Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury will battle for the WBO World heavyweight title. If Parker wins, then he’ll most likely defend his title against Bellew.
Team Fury has been in talks with Haye’s people about a possible title fight if Hughie wins gold in Manchester against Parker. How will this all unfold? Time will tell.
