The proposed world heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksdandr Usyk will have a rematch clause, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
Hearn, who was speaking to Boxing Social yesterday at the Fight Camp launch, also said that in essence Usyk will now work with Matchroom in a two-fight deal beginning with the Ukrainian’s world title challenge against Joshua.
“If Oleksandr Usyk gets beat we get him another fight,” said Hearn who worked with Usyk in a multi-fight promotional deal from 2018 until it expired earlier this year.
“AJ is putting his entire stack on the line and many, many tens of millions on the line to fight Oleksandr Usyk so in that respect if there’s an opportunity to do that fight again, which would be a huge fight, then that’s what we would look to do. If the rematch sense makes commercial sense to Oleksandr Usyk, which it does, then it’s something we look at.
“It’s a massive opportunity and if Oleksandr Usyk wins he makes an absolute fortune.”
Hearn said that he believes the fight negotiations between Team AJ and Team Usyk are in a “good place”.
“I don’t see any problems with that fight. September 18 or 25, Wembley, Spurs, incoming…”
