The war of words between Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya has continued this week, with Eddie Hearn now claiming the head of Golden Boy Promotions has ‘the fight of his life’ on his hands.
The heated back and forth has been going on throughout June, with De La Hoya telling Hearn to ‘stay in his lane’ after comments on the American’s public spat with his fighter Ryan Garcia.
De La Hoya then took a swipe at Hearn for ‘another sh***y card’ in the wake of Regis Prograis’s recent split-decision win against Danielito Zorrilla for the WBC super-lightweight championship.
Ever since De La Hoya failed to turn up for the post-fight press conference following Garcia’s knockout loss to Gervonta Davis, the promoter-fighter partnership has been tense.
That boiled over recently with Garcia’s team sending a letter to Golden Boy detailing issues they saw with the relationship. The promotional company responded by filing a lawsuit in an attempt to ensure Garcia honours his contract.
Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn claimed Garcia has now ‘made his move’ away from Golden Boy and plans to sign with PBC.
Later speaking to IFL TV, he went on to outline the challenge De La Hoya has ahead of him to retain his fighter, adding that it might well keep Garcia out of the ring for some time and isn’t a good look for either party.
“He’s got the fight of life on his hands right now. The biggest fight of his career against Ryan Garcia. Good luck to everybody.”
Garcia has since tweeted that he’s ‘never spoken about any move yet’ and that Hearn has likely heard inaccurate information. The saga continues.
