After the announcement of the huge rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte earlier this week, fans have already started launching enquiries about who will feature on the undercard.
And it looks like there could be another big heavyweight dust up for the patrons at the 02 Arena to take in on August 12.
Speaking to IFL TV, Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed a heavily touted fight between IBF number one ranked heavyweight Filip Hrgovic and undefeated Australian southpaw Demsey McKean was in the works and had a ‘very good’ chance to land in London in just over a month’s time.
“It [Hrgovic vs McKean] is a big fight, it’s almost a final eliminator for the world title. That could also land in America a week or two after, but there’s a very good chance Demsey McKean vs Filip Hrgovic will land on that [Joshua-Whyte] show.”
Hrgovic became mandatory for the IBF belt following a razor thin win over Zhilei Zhang on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2 in Saudi Arabia last year.
The Croatian is expected to get his shot at unified world champion Usyk towards the end of the year, however he can kiss that goodbye for the foreseeable future if he comes unstuck against McKean.
Though McKean is undefeated and boasts a respectable knockout percentage, his wins have come at a much lower level than Hrgovic would represent and he would be a sizeable underdog in the fight.
Hopefully the bout is added to the Joshua vs Whyte 2 card, as it will no doubt need a strong supporting show in order to justify the steep pay per view price of £26.99.
The card will ‘almost certainly’ feature the long-awaited middleweight clash between Felix Cash and Ammo Williams – although it’s unclear how Cash’s recent split with Trainer Tony Sims may affect this.
