Following a recent win in his first fight for some time, Hughie Fury has now revealed that he will be back in the ring sooner rather than later as his next opponent and fight date is announced.
Before this extended time out from the sport began, Fury was in good form and managed to notch up three consecutive victories in the heavyweight division which had earned him a solid ranking with the WBA.
However, illness and the resulting inactivity meant he had to withdraw from a proposed fight with American Michael Hunter and he was removed from the rankings in the latter stages of 2022 as a result.
Now putting that behind him, Fury got back to winning ways in April when he took on Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko at the Magna Centre, Rotherham.
That was his first bout in almost three years having taken some time out to deal with health issues including Covid. Before his last fight, his record sat at 26 wins and just three losses, but always against those at the top of the sport.
The cousin of heavyweight king Tyson Fury has fought the likes of Joseph Parker, Kubrat Pulev and Alexander Povetkin but now claims he is back to full fitness and ready to challenge once more.
Next up, the former world title challenger is to face Patrick Korte in a heavyweight bout on the undercard of Lauren Price’s world title fight against Jessica McCaskill on Saturday May 11 at the Utilita Arena Cardiff.
His promoter, BOXXER, revealed the news in a message on X.
“Just Added! 👊 Hughie Fury returns to the ring as the rebuild begins, and Lewis Edmondson back in action 🔥 Final tickets remaining, http://BOXXER.com 🎟️ #McCaskillPrice | 11.05.24 | Utilita Arena, Cardiff | @SkySportsBoxing | @peacock | @BBCWales”
Korte has a record of 21 wins, three defeats and one draw, with 18 of his wins coming by knockout. He previously fought former highly-ranked IBF contender Demsey McKean in 2022, but suffered a third round stoppage defeat.
Fury is a long and languid fighter who likes to stay on the outside and pick off his opponents with good timing. Should he pick up another win, he will be looking to mix it with many of the division’s top names once more.
