Former heavyweight title challenger Hughie Fury has named the man he will face in his long-awaited return to the ring.
Hughie is Tyson Fury’s cousin and has been out of action for almost three years. He has had a long battle with COVID and suffered from skin problems that have blighted his career in the past but is now fully fit and ready to go once more.
Hughie had secured three consecutive victories in the heavyweight division before his hiatus and had earned himself a notable ranking with the WBA. However, his inactivity led to his removal from rankings in late 2022 after he withdrew from a bout against Michael Hunter.
A new post on X by his promotional team Hennessy Sports has revealed Fury will be fighting Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko.
Dovbyshchenko has had 26 fights, won 10, seven by knockout, but lost 15 times on points. He is 32 and is an orthodox fighter from Ukraine but is based in London. He has lost to Moses Itauma, Tom Schwarz and Andrii Rudenko though is an active fighter so should give Fury some good rounds.
Due to his extended absence, Fury’s comeback fight is a six-rounder to reacquaint him with the ring as he rebuilds towards more significant matchups in the future and many potential domestic clashes.
