Following the cancellation of their scheduled unification bout, Bob Arum says that unified bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue could still meet WBO ruler John Riel Casimero in 2021.
“My Japanese partner said they would like to get Inoue back in action by February or March,” Arum said to Josef Ramos of the Business Mirror. “The first quarter of next year [is being discussed], and that’s what we are going to do. Casimero is a very good possibility.”
Inoue was initially due to meet Casimero in a three-belt match-up in Las Vegas back in April, though the event was cancelled due to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Casimero instead took just three rounds to knock out Duke Micah in impressive style back in September, while Inoue dominated and dismantled Jason Moloney in seven rounds last weekend in Las Vegas.
