Jack Catterall was set to take on Regis Prograis in a huge event in Manchester next month, but the pair will have to wait a bit longer for the bout after it was reported that the fight is set to be postponed.
Catterall finally gained revenge over bitter rival Josh Taylor in Leeds back in May, defeating his nemesis by unanimous decision over two years after the duo had first met, with Taylor coming out on top via a controversial split decision back then.
Following the win ‘El Gato’ made his intentions clear that he wanted a huge fight next, with former unified world champion Prograis stepping up for a battle at the new Co-Op Live Arena on August 24.
It was set to be the first boxing event held at the venue, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for the bout, after ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported that Catterall had suffered an injury.
“Jack Catterall is injured and his Aug. 24 fight vs. former champion Regis Prograis in Manchester is postponed, sources tell ESPN. The injury isn’t considered serious and the bout will be rescheduled for the fall. Bout will be rescheduled for a date in October, sources said.”
Prograis was last in action in December, where he lost his WBC super-lightweight title against Devin Haney. It was the second defeat of his professional career, having also come up short against Josh Taylor in the final of the World Boxing Super Series in October 2019.
It is currently unknown what will happen with the rest of the card, which was set to feature Rhiannon Dixon defending her WBO lightweight title against Terri Harper, Johnny Fisher facing Andrii Rudenko, plus the likes of Campbell Hatton, Pat McCormack, Joe McGrail and more.
