Jacob Ng is zoned in for the biggest night of his professional career, as he clashes with former IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib on March 19 at the Star Casino on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Dib has been at the forefront of Australian boxing for years, holding and contesting the IBF world featherweight title on a global stage, having once been guided by legendary rapper 50 Cent amongst others.
Rising lightweight Ng is well known within the inner circles of Australian boxing whilst gaining global recognition in the form of a world ranking from both the IBF and WBO.
Ng discussed his preparations ahead of the highly-anticipated clash with Dib.
“March 19 is a massive night for me and it’s surreal that it’s close now. I’ve had a great camp for this fight, I’ve never had a focus like this,” Ng said. “My team, headed up by my father Stephen has put everything into this camp and I really believe it will show on the night and the world will see the next star coming out of Australia.
“I know tickets have pretty much all gone for this event and that is a testament to the quality of this event. To real boxing fans, this is the best scheduled all-Aussie clash right now by far. It’s a proper fight and the winner goes onto big things and that is 100% going to be Jacob Ng.”
Ng currently holds two lofty world rankings and the winner of this contest looks set for a crack at the world lightweight titles in the not-so-distant future. Ng opened up about a potential all Australian clash with George Kambosos Jr.
“I love the Kambosos Jr fight. I have all the respect in the world for Kambosos Jr’s achievements,” Ng stated. “I know my stablemates Demsey McKean and Liam Paro are co-signed with Matchroom, and Matchroom have talked about coming to Australia for shows.
“You’re not really going to get a better all Australian fight than myself and Kambosos Jr. This fight with Dib has caught the public’s attention and is the perfect way to build up a fight with Kambosos Jr.
“There’s reportedly lots of back and forths with fighters such as Lomachenko, Haney, and Garcia to fight George. I’m not a prima donna, I’m a fighter, I don’t care about being a superstar – I just want to fight. So, if George’s team is struggling to find an opponent to come to Australia he doesn’t need to look far as there is one here in Jacob Ng.
“The ACE Boxing Group and I have worked tirelessly to get myself into a position for big fights. Australia has been crying out for big nights to happen like myself and Dib and now they’re here and hopefully to stay. I’m in a massive fight with Billy Dib and want a massive fight with George Kambosos Jr in the future. That’s the dream I’ve visualised and I have the team around me to make it happen.”
