Jake Paul is looking ahead after an eye-catching knockout win over Andre August.
With his latest opponent flat on his back, it marked a change in the career of Jake Paul. Previously, the Ohio native would sell-out arenas for fights against retired MMA stars or fellow content creators.
His first test against a relatively established pro boxer was a split decision loss against Tommy Fury.
At the post-fight press conference, Paul shed the crossover scene entirely and said that his goal was now to become world champion in the traditional sense.
“What’s the plan here? It’s just one answer – to become world champion.”
Asked whether or not 10-0 cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley was on his radar, the American said ‘for sure.’
“Yeah, for sure that could happen. That would be interesting. He has a name, a profile, and that’s something that excites me for sure. As I go down this path I’m gonna continue to challenge myself and grow and grow, and some of those names start popping into the equation.
Riley has moved through the ranks impressively, winning the vacant English title in his last bout with a stoppage win over Nathan Quarless.
With a strong online presence and the backing of BOXXER and Sky Sports, he’s touted as one of the next stars of the British fight scene. Now that Paul has settled on the 200lbs class, the match-up makes a lot of sense.
