With a new date for his clash with Tommy Fury set, Jake Paul has explained further details of the fight, including the weight and number of rounds.
First of all, Paul confirmed that the bout will be set at a catchweight of 185lbs. This should be easily achievable by both fighters. Paul is the naturally bigger man and usually fights at around 190lbs – although he weighed in to his last fight against Anderson Silva at 186.5lbs.
Meanwhile, Fury usually campaigns in the light-heavyweight division (175lbs), but has fought at as high as 189lbs previously. The Brit came in heavy for his fight bout with Paul Bamba in November, resulting in a last minute opponent change.
Jake Paul and his team have included financial penalties for missing weight this time around, the American told Boxing Social, as well as confirming that he has placed a one-sided rematch clause in the fight contract, in case he loses.
“Yeah, it is a catchweight of 185lbs. There is penalties for not making weight. Tommy is light, like I am going to make weight because I am a f****ng professional. I will be right on weight, Tommy is a little bit lighter, he is probably 190lbs right now, so he is probably only cutting five pounds.”
“I believe there is a rematch clause, yes, on my side.”
The 26-year-old went on to justify why he is the bookies’ favourite for the event, having had the experience dealing with pressure, and announced that the fight will be an eight-round contest.
“This is his first main event. This is his first eight-round fight. This is his first time going in against someone who is undefeated. So, there is a lot of things that he has to face for the first time and I think the nerves are definitely going to get to him. I don’t think he has been tested in a fight and I’m going to test him.”
Whilst Paul has gone the distance in two of his last three fights, he doesn’t believe that Fury’s lack of experience in eight-round fights will matter as he predicts a knockout victory inside three rounds.
The fight will take place on Sunday 26th February and will be broadcast on BT Sport Box Office in the UK and ESPN+ in the US.
