Jared Anderson touched down in the UK this week for the Claressa Shields – Savannah Marshall event, and he made a prediction for the heavyweight fight everybody’s talking about.
It’s hard to imagine a future where Anderson isn’t in the mix for titles. For now though, as the hard-hitting prospect makes his way up the rankings, he gave his thoughts to Intu Boxing on the potential championship scrap between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
“Tyson Fury. Early stoppage. Maybe fourth or fifth round, to be honest.”
A confident pick from the man who some are calling the future of the heavyweight division. Still, predictions may be premature. Despite negotiations being very public, there is still a feeling amongst fans that talks of a 2022 showdown between ‘The Gypsy King’ and ‘AJ’ are likely to fall through.
There has been some radio silence following an ultimatum by Fury’s team, although it’s worth remembering that often deals get made when the public back and forth stops.
As for ‘Big Baby’, he doesn’t dwell too much on the hype that surrounds him. Twelve fights, twelve knockouts and a style that’s endlessly watchable means a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but the Ohio-born fighter seems to be taking it in his stride.
“I’m not trying to prove anything to anybody. I’m really just proving to myself what I’m capable of and trying to be the best me.”
Asked how he views his standing in the sport, he made sure he was on the record before answering.
“You can quote me on this. The best ever.”
