Rising welterweight star Jaron Ennis has officially announced his next world title fight and sent a huge warning to his opponent.
Fresh from signing for Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Ennis has announced that he will defend his IBF world welterweight title against Cody Crowley in a big fight at Wells Fargo Centre on July 13 in his hometown of Philadelphia, live on DAZN worldwide.
This will be Ennis’s first fight as a world champion and sees him fighting back home for the first time since November 2018.
The now 26-year-old has not fought in a little over a year since his 10th knockout win over Roiman Villa in Atlantic City which saw him defend his interim title and then get elevated to full champion after Terrence Crawford was stripped.
Speaking via Matchroom Boxing, Ennis expressed his excitement for his next fight while also promising to put on a big performance.
“I’m excited for my homecoming especially being the first to fight at the Wells Fargo Center, the biggest arena in Philly. I can’t wait to show out and put on a beautiful, dominating, crushing performance in front of my family, friends and supporters while defending and retaining my IBF World title in spectacular fashion. I’m ready to step on any and everybody that’s in my way!”
Crowley then fired back with a defiant message of his own.
“Ten years ago, I arrived in Las Vegas with a dream of becoming world champion, unbroken by the sport. The only thing left to do is prove to the world in the City of Brotherly Love, that I am an undefeated champion, my spirit is unbeatable and I will fight for those who are too scared to fight.”
He then revealed he was on a mission to become the best in the sport in tribute to his late father.
“I will become the greatest in the world for my dad, who I love and miss dearly, my home country of Canada, and for world peace, so that others do not have to endure the same suffering. There is nothing anyone can do to break me. There is nothing I am not ready for. This next chapter is already written.”
Crowley is a Canadian boxer who has had 22 fights and won 9 by knockout. His last contest was against Abel Ramos in a title eliminator in March so now he gets his first shot at a world title against Ennis who represents a real step up.
