Jarrell Miller and Lucas Browne put on a real slobber-knocker in Dubai, with Miller coming out on top via sixth round stoppage.
Much was made of the weight of both men – well known for failing PED tests in the past – before the contest. They presented a combined bulk of over 600lb, with Miller claiming 333 of that.
It was no surprise then that the affair was plodding and cumbersome.
Miller was caught clean more than his team liked, with a distinct disregard for moving his head. Still, his shots were the ones that were building up the damage on Browne, whose face was bloodied from the second onwards.
The back and forths continued as the fighters favoured inside work with short hooks and uppercuts. Despite both having success, Miller never looked hurt, whereas Browne’s guard was dropping as the rounds went on.

In the sixth, Miller landed four big right hands without response and the 43-year-old Australian fell into the ropes and onto the canvas. When the referee asked him if he wanted to continue, he said yes with a sigh.
Miller followed up with a swarm of unanswered punches and it was stopped as they towel came in.

It was the definition of a slugfest, and Miller moves to 26-0-1 whilst Browne now deals with the fourth stoppage loss of his 35 fight career.
‘Big Baby’s dreams of being in a world title fight are still alive in theory, although it’s worth remembering that he did burn some bridges with promoters and broadcasters following the consecutive bans for doping.
Floyd Mayweather graced the commentary box and perhaps summed it up best – for him to face the top level competition he has to move his head and drop some weight.
As for Browne, he said recently that he was fighting in Dubai because the British Boxing Board of Control wouldn’t sanction a fight with him due to his age. He’s likely to take a look at the decision with more clarity now after taking punishment for punishment’s sake.
Elsewhere on the card, Jono Carroll faced Miguel Marriaga. The Columbian hurt the Brit in the second and opened a cut beside his left eye, but the storm was weathered well.
Carroll took over and, although Marriaga was dangerous throughout and did land significant shots, the Irishman known as ‘King Kong’ was busier and controlled his distance well. He won via unanimous decision with the scores 98-92, 100-90 and 99-91.
