Jarell Miller is back in action later in the year but ahead of that has been asked for his prediction as to what happens when Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang face off in June.
In this upcoming bout in Saudi Arabia, both Wilder and Zhang are aiming to bounce back from recent setbacks to keep their hopes of a future world title shot alive. In their previous fights, they both suffered defeats at the hands of the same opponent: Joseph Parker.
Parker secured a victory over Wilder in December during the Day of Reckoning event. He boxed well and to great instructions from his coach Andy Lee, keeping on the outside and peppering Wilder with long shots while not allowing him to land anything of his own.
He then defeated Zhang in March on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s dominant performance against Francis Ngannou and although he was knocked down, managed to land enough of his own to get the points win.
Scheduled as one of the heavyweight matchups on the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 v 5 card, this fight holds significance, especially for Wilder, who is captaining Eddie Hearn’s team and stands to earn double points should he be able to secure a victory.
The card also features other exciting matchups, including Daniel Dubois versus Fillip Hrgovic, Nick Ball versus Ray Ford, Ammo Williams versus Hamzah Sheeraz, and Craig Richards versus Willy Hutchinson.
Miller meanwhile will be taking on Andy Ruiz on a massive card in August on the undercard of the world title fight between Israel Madrimov and Terence Crawford.
The pair have a rather interlinked past as Ruiz’s most memorable career moment occurred in June 2019 when he stunned the boxing world with a victory over Anthony Joshua, claiming the unified world heavyweight titles, having stepped in as a late replacement at Madison Square Garden after Miller was pulled from the card in the wake of him failing several drug tests.
Speaking to Boxing News, he has now had his say on Wilder and Zhang.
“Zhang going to knock him out, Zhang trains in New York, I sparred him, he’s a big durable guy, he’s mean, he throws leather, and everybody he fought so far he either dropped or has hurt and we know Deontay super chinny so if he lands on him he’s going to get him out of there.”
It will be a hard road back to the top for whoever loses this one comes fight night.
