Debate around which fighter is currently the face of boxing has become more fervent in recent months, especially given some of the big fights fans have been treated to.
Undisputed light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo has weighed in with his two cents, and believes that particular accolade belongs to a fellow American.
In a recent episode of Fight Towns on Showtime Sports, Charlo told former NBA star Stephen Jackson that, right now, three weight world champion Gervonta Davis is the face of boxing.
“I think, truly, right now, though, the face of boxing gotta be Gervonta Davis, to me.
Right now, if you think about who really conquered the new world, selling out every fight, he performing well. Everybody wants to stay focused on the negativity, but he’s grinding his ass off.”
Given his victory over Ryan Garcia back in April in the biggest fight of 2023 thus far, there is no arguing that Davis is, at the very least, amongst the biggest stars in the sport.
Now 29 fights in to his professional career, ‘Tank’ is yet to taste defeat, with only two of his opponents managing to last until the final bell.
However, despite seeming to be at the peak of his powers in the ring, things away from boxing aren’t going swimmingly for the 28 year old
He has just been sent to jail for two months for breaking a 90 day home detention order, after being originally sentenced to house arrest for a hit and run offence dating back to November 2020.
