The biggest test of Jermell Charlo’s career is only a couple of weeks away, when he will jump up two weight classes to take on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena.
Charlo and his team will have no doubt spent plenty of time researching Alvarez’ fights, and he’s revealed which of the Mexican’s 59 wins he deems to be the most impressive.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Charlo explained why he believes Canelo’s 2019 win over Sergey Kovalev stands above the rest.
“Kovalev was a really good win. He was much bigger and stronger than him, and he still annihilated him. That was a really good win, that I consider Canelo’s best.”
Alvarez jumped up to light heavyweight to compete for the WBO title held by Kovalev who, although past his best, was still regarded as one of the best fighters in the 175lbs division.
On September 30th it is the Guadalajara man who will have the physical advantages, however, with Charlo having spent the entirety of his career at light middleweight.
Though Alvarez is expected to emerge with the victory in Las Vegas, he hasn’t looked his brilliant best in his last three showings and some observers think he could be on the slide.
As such, ‘Iron Man’ will hope and believe that he could have landed a monster pay day against the four weight world champion at the perfect time and can become undisputed champion at a second weight class.
However, it will still definitely go down as a surprise if he was to defeat Alvarez, whom is regarded as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the sport.
