Heavyweight contender Joe Joyce has spoken about Joseph Parker’s win over Zhilei Zhang having fought both men, with differing results.
Last year, Joyce lost back-to-back fights against big Chinese puncher Zhang when he was stopped twice, which handed him the first two losses of his career. He is now hoping to come back with a win over Kash Ali when he fights this weekend.
Joyce has also previously fought Parker and performed well to get the win inside the distance with a crushing knockout in the 11th round to win the WBO interim heavyweight title.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he was asked what he made of the win from Parker on the undercard of Anthony Joshua versus Francis Ngannou.
“Yeah it was a great performance. He was dodging and weaving, he boxed him how I should have boxed him. He definitely felt that straight left hand and yeah he came back, boxed a really good fight, got back in there and outpointed him throughout the rounds.”
He was then asked how he thought it was going to go beforehand.
“I didn’t know. I was on the fence with both fighters actually and like I know Parker is very experienced and can box very well but having felt Zhang’s power first hand it was difficult to pick how it was going to go ’cause he’s very dangerous.”
Joyce will now be hoping he can get back to winning ways against Ali this weekend.
