Heavyweight title hopeful Joe Joyce has offered a big update on a recently rumoured clash with fellow Brit, Derek Chisora, after ‘Del Boy’ sparked whispers that the pair could meet this year.
Joyce bounced back from consecutive stoppage defeats to Zhilei Zhang with a final-round knockout win over Kash Ali last month, but despite victory, the performance was that of a vulnerable fighter who appeared to lack confidence.
It suggested that Joyce is not yet ready to thrust himself back into title contention. but instead, Chisora has revealed that he has an offer on the table to face ‘The Juggernaut’, and Joyce said that it is a fight he has been chasing for a while.
“I want to get back in there and have a nice win and then have a big fight. Derek Chisora is a possibility and is a big name to add to the list. I wanted to fight Derek Chisora earlier on in my career when I was with David Haye and Ringstar Promotions, but he wasn’t willing to fight me. He even said to my face that he didn’t want to fight me, so we will see but I wanted to fight him before.
I think he didn’t want to fight me back then because if he had lost to me back then, he wouldn’t have had the other fights he had with the likes of Carlos Takam, after the time we could’ve fought.
“There’s nothing to confirm officially as of yet but there have been some big names flying about, it would be good to get out there and fight a big name fighter like Derek Chisora but nothing has been sent to my team. I’m confident in my abilities if we were to fight though and I believe if we do fight, he will be knocked out.”
Joyce-Chisora is unconfirmed for now, but Chisora’s relationships in the Middle East could see the bout take place in Saudi Arabia.
