Tyson Fury is the only man Deontay Wilder has faced and failed to knock out, with Fury emerging from their trilogy with two wins and a very controversial draw.
Since that third fight, Wilder has been starved of high level competition, with his only outing a one round demolition of faded Finn Robert Helenius last October.
Fury’s father John has weighed in on the current state of Wilder’s career, and believes all other top heavyweights are scared to jump in with him – apart from one.
In a recent interview with FreeBets, ‘Big John’ claimed former unified heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz Jr was the only other contender in the blue ribbon division with big enough “you know what’s” to accept a fight with the Alamaba puncher.
“The only one out there who can challenge Tyson, and they all avoid him and they won’t fight him, is Deontay Wilder. They’re all terrified of him, and Tyson straightened him up three times!”
“All those people will never get in with ‘The Bronze Bomber.’ Usyk, AJ, none of them will fight ‘The Bronze Bomber.’ Andy Ruiz Jr will – for a price. Because he’s got big you know what’s, and if the money is right and it makes good business sense, I can only see Andy Ruiz fighting him.”
“He’s the only one who comes to mind who is in that bracket. He’s the only one who’s going to fight Deontay Wilder because there rest are terrified. They know what’s coming.”
Wilder had been earmarked for a Saudi clash with Anthony Joshua, however this now appears to back to square one after a restructuring of the handling of boxing in the country.
Talks have also been held throughout the year for an all American affair with Ruiz, however money appears to be proving to be a stumbling block.
