John Fury, father of the WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, seems to still hold ill will toward Anthony Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, following failed negotiations for a fight with his son.
For a moment, it looked likely that fight fans would see one of the biggest heavyweight clashes in history – certainly on British shores – when Fury called out ‘AJ’ and it was accepted.
Negotiations ultimately broke down, as many in the sport predicted they would, and the aftermath saw each side blame the other. The relationship between AJ’s camp and Fury’s now seems worse than ever – so much so that ‘Big John’ refused to comment on the fighter and promoter duo to Boxing Social other than through insults.
“Forget Eddie Hearn, he’s a bum. He’s a pussy as well. Bums and pussies. I won’t comment on bums and pussies. AJ’s a pussy, Eddie Hearn’s a bigger one, I’m not interested.
They’ll never get a chance at The Gypsy King. When I see Eddie Hearn he’s going across my knee, and I’ll give him a red ear hole and a sore arse. Enough said about Eddie Hearn. That’s all I’ll say about them. He’s not a man, he’s nothing.
He’s a squirrel – and a cowardly squirrel at that. And his other mate, AJ, I don’t know what the hell he is. He’s a body builder. Get some more juice down you, pal. Enough said.”
Fury’s response came when asked about the news surrounding the IBF ordering their champion, Oleksandr Usyk, to face his mandatory challenger in Filip Hrgovic. If the ruling is stuck by, it may postpone Usyk’s ideal fight with Fury to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion.
It’s believed that there are some routes to allow the unification of the belts to happen, but it remains to be seen if Hearn, who co-promotes Hrgovic, will advise his fighter to play ball.
