When Tyson Fury will decide to call time on his storied professional boxing career is a mystery, probably more so to ‘The Gypsy King’ himself than anyone else.
Fury’s unmissable father John has weighed in with his thoughts on the matter, and believes the lineal champion will be around to entertain fight fans for a few years yet.
In a recent interview with FreeBets, ‘Big John’ explained that he struggles to see a reason for Fury to retire at the moment.
“I think he’s good for another four years. He’s not stressed about anything and he enjoys his job. He’s retired before and he didn’t like retirement, and he’s said to me before that without boxing he’s got nothing else.”
“I think Tyson will be one of the longest reigning champions there’s been for a long time. Because looking at the opposition, why would you retire when you’re leagues in front of people at the moment?”
“All the time you’re streets in front of other fighters, keep going and keep entertaining the public. The fan base is just growing and growing, so why retire?”
“If you can entertain people in this very dull world we live in at the moment, keep going.”
Fury actually announced his retirement after his stoppage win over Dillian Whyte last spring, however was back in the ring against Derek Chisora before the end of the year.
He’s next out on October 28 in Saudi Arabia, where he will take on former UFC heavyweight world champion Francis Ngannou in a non title crossover bout, which has received a mixed reception from the boxing public.
Fans have a sincere hope that those few years John mentions will include bouts with both Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
