John Fury has spoken out this week about his son Tommy’s potential fight with Jake Paul – and insists he will force Tommy to retire if he cannot defeat the YouTuber.
The Fury family father told FairBettingSites that he would have to pull his son out of the sport should he fail to stop Paul, however ‘Big John’ is unsure whether the fight will ever materialise, claiming Paul looked scared when the pair clashed in Dubai last month.
“Let me tell you this much: if Tommy can’t knock Jake Paul out I’ll retire Tommy from the sport of boxing straight afterwards, I’ll have no more to do with it, I’ll say ‘look, you’re going nowhere’ because I don’t rate Jake Paul at all.”
“Tommy’s a livewire, the fight will be made at 13 stone 3-4 lbs, Tommy’s ideal weight and Tommy can punch as hard as a heavyweight. But can we actually get Jake Paul in the ring?”
“We’re going to find out very shortly because we’ve said ‘ok, yeah we’ll take it, whatever you’re offering, let’s get it on’. He needs to be sorted out, but I don’t think he will because I saw him that day over in Dubai and saw fear in his eyes.”
A fight between Tommy and Jake Paul has already been agreed twice, however the Brit has had to withdraw on both occasions.
Talk of a third scheduling arose when ‘The Problem Child’ was sat ringside as Fury fought an exhibition against Rolly Lambert, and a fracas between team Fury and Paul broke out post fight.
John even removed his top and attempted to exit the ring to confront Paul, in a moment that went viral across social media. Despite the hype, the negotiations have been typically messy.
