Jake Paul and Tommy Fury are weeks away from settling their differences in the ring – and, to Tommy Fury’s surprise, many people think he’s going to lose.
The pair will face off on Sunday February 26 in Saudi Arabia – a third attempt at a fight following two cancellations. For years now they have spouted off about how easily they will beat one another, and fans will finally see one man proved right.
Fury recently criticised any people from boxing picking Paul, so he won’t be happy with Nelson’s take. The former cruiserweight world champion turned pundit told Pro Boxing Fans Jake Paul would win and deserved credit.
“You know what? I’m gonna say something here. I think Jake Paul is not a bad fighter. I think Jake Paul beats Tommy Fury. It’ll be a hard pill to swallow, but he’s one of the YouTubers you’ve got to respect and think he’s doing his job, he’s fighting, he’s winning and he’s getting world class attention.”
The BT Sports Box Office and ESPN+ broadcast fight is set for a catchweight of 185lb and scheduled for eight rounds – although neither man believes it will go the distance.
Should Paul win as Nelson expects, Fury will face calls to retire from the sport from his father and brother. If the American loses, he has the option to activate an immediate rematch.
Given the two previously failed bouts, Paul has a back-up opponent – MMA fighter Mike Perry – on standby should Fury pull out. The Brit missed the first press conference in Saudi Arabia, but later confirmed that it was because he refused to skip the end of his training camp in Manchester.
