Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the highly-anticipated rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall after it was reported that the fight is being postponed.
The two men were due to meet at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on April 27, over two years after their controversial first meeting for the undisputed super-lightweight titles.
Many onlookers felt that Catterall had done enough to earn the win and become the new champion, but the judges gave the verdict to Taylor via split decision.
That led to a bitter feud between the fighters, and was set to finally culminate next month when they finally stepped back through the ropes again.
According to ESPN journalist Mike Coppinger it won’t be happening just yet though, after he reported that an injury to Taylor has forced the postponement of the fight.
“The Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall rematch has been postponed … again. Taylor suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the April 27 return bout vs. Catterall in Leeds, England, sources told ESPN. Taylor-Catterall 2 expected to be rescheduled as soon as late May.”
A postponement until late May means it should only receive a delay of around four weeks, so the two fierce rivals will still be able to settle their differences before the summer.
Official confirmation of the delay is expected soon, with a new date set to be announced for the event that will be broadcast live on DAZN.
