Tensions continue to rise between rival light heavyweights as Joshua Buatsi has now shot down Anthony Yarde with a defiant response.
It is hoped that these two Brit fighters will be announcing a big match-up sometime soon. It has been brewing for years and would see the unbeaten Buatsi take on the two-time world title challenger Yarde somewhere in London.
Yarde has stepped up to world level twice but just fallen short against Artur Beterbiew and Sergey Kovalev despite giving both good fights, especially considering that he has no amateur experience.
Buatsi however is a former Olympian who has taken it slowly in the pro ranks and got his best win last time out – a points victory over his long time sparring partner Dan Azeez.
Last week Yarde claimed that Buatsi was making unrealistic financial demands but yesterday Yarde’s promoter Frank Warren said that he thought both teams were close to agreeing terms.
In response to both of those suggestions, Buatsi has taken to X and posted a message which is very much at odds with the comment that a deal has been done.
“No offer yet. Still waiting. You all know who I’ve asked for.”
A follow up post reiterated his readiness.
“Been ready to go. Waiting on @mranthonyyarde @Queensberry”
Buatsi fights on Sky Sports with Ben Shalom’s Boxxer which could be one stumbling block but it seems he is prepared to fight anywhere in order to get this high quality match up over the line.
