Promoter Eddie Hearn has that there is a plan to book a fight between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker for next spring or summer. The mission for Joshua is to get all the belts and Parker currently holds the WBO heavyweight title.
“We’ve got the Wladimir Klitschko fight, we’ve also got a mandatory with Kubrat Pulev but we want Parker in the spring or summer of next year. We want to try and add another belt to the bow,” said Hearn according to Sky Sports.
Joshua isn’t the only fighter after Parker. There are quite a few other potential opponents lining up to face the Kiwi heavyweight. Parker is defending his title next against Hughie Fury on September 23rd. Dyllian Whyte has stated that he’s ready to step in should Fury pull out due to an injury. It’s also no secret that Tony Bellew is interested in fighting for a world title against Parker.
“Certainly victories over Hughie Fury and Tony Bellew or Dillian Whyte would put Joseph [Parker] in a brilliant position to earn a lot of money in the Anthony Joshua fight and put him in a position where that fight is a necessity rather than a potential fight,” commented Hearn.
Joshua’s rematch against Klitschko still hasn’t got a date or an official venue. Though, it has been confirmed that the event will no be held in the UK.
