Anthony Joshua has weighed in with a prediction for the fight between his bitter rival Jarrell Miller and countryman Daniel Dubois.
The two heavyweights will fight on the card that will also see ‘AJ’ face Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder take on Joseph Parker but, despite the big names at the top, many fans feel Dubois-Miller is the most intriguing contest of the night.
Dubois bounced back from a sore loss to Joe Joyce in 2020 by fighting his way to the WBA mandatory position and a shot at Oleksandr Usyk.
The world title challenge marked his second professional loss, after Dubois’ one major success was ruled a low-blow and the Ukrainian took over to get the stoppage.
As for Miller, his career has been hindered by failed doping tests, the first of which in this sport came ahead of a proposed bout with Joshua. Further banned substances saw him suspended for two years, and he has built up three wins since his return in 2022.
Speaking to DAZN, Joshua weighed up the options before backing the Brit to get the knockout.
“Jarrell Miller, very confident. Daniel Dubois is more reserved, but styles make fights, right? And I believe that Daniel Dubois has got a good coach behind him in Don Charles. Don Charles wants a young heavyweight champion one day, so he’s gonna push him.
Jarrell Miller wants to reignite his name in the heavyweight division by taking on Daniel Dubois. I’m glad that these two are fighting, good luck to both of them. I think Daniel Dubois will knockout him out.”
It would be a 19th stoppage win for Dubois should it play out that way – and one he desperately needs to avoid back-to-back losses.
Miller is undefeated but largely untested at the top level. Still, he’s confident that his opponent for December 23 ‘has quit in him.’
