Global streaming platform DAZN have secured exclusive rights to the WBA/WBO/IBF heavyweight title clash between reigning champion AnthonyJoshua and former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk in more than 170 countries and territories worldwide – including all of North America, South America, and Oceania as well as much of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
“We’re thrilled to continue our strong relationship with Matchroom, Anthony Joshua and his team at 258MGT as the global home of boxing,” said Ed Breeze, EVP of Rights at DAZN.
“This fight will be an all-out heavyweight battle between two of the best in the division, live from a remarkable stadium in front a full house of avid fans. The countdown is on, and we cannot wait to bring this epic clash to our subscribers around the world.”
Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) last defended his unified crown with a ninth-round knockout win over Kubrat Pulev at The SSE Arena, Wembley back in December in what was his first fight on UK soil since he stopping Alexander Povetkin in seven rounds at Wembley Stadium in September 2018.
After months of speculation surrounding a potential all-British undisputed title clash with WBC champion Tyson Fury, Joshua cannot afford to take his eye off the ball in the wake of arguably his stiffest test as a professional. Though the naturally smaller man, pound-for-pound star Usyk is one of the sports premier combatants and the Ukrainian has long-since craved his crack at the heavyweight throne against Joshua. His skill-set and pedigree make him a real threat to ‘AJ’ on September 25th.
An announcement on the undercard will be made in due course, though it is expected to include WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie making the first defence of his title against mandatory challenger Dilan Prasovic, as well as the return of former WBA super-middleweight champion Callum Smith in his light-heavyweight debut.
