In a conversation with Boxing Social, former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua touched on a variety of subjects, including how praying has helped him mentally, linking up with Robert Garcia, and what it’ll take for unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk to defeat him.
Joshua said:
“Since I’ve been here I’ve prayed, like, every day.”
“Definitely helped me become closer to God…That’s definitely helped me mentally and become closer to my spiritual side as well.”
The Brit was also asked about new trainer Robert Garcia and if the new culture in his gym would seem him adopt a ‘Mexican style’ in the fight:
“We’ll see the African style, life, that’s all that matters.”
“I’m taking African style to Mexican style…both hard working people…I respect the Mexican culture.”
Lastly, AJ was asked about what he thinks Usyk will do when they eventually face other.
“He needs to work harder to beat me.”
“Listen, boxing’s a dog fight at the end of the day, it’s in me.”
“If you’re a boxer, then you have it in you. It never left anyway.”
Whether Joshua’s changes to his camp will make a difference against Usyk remains to be seen as the two clash against each other on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
