Tyson Fury might be cut and out of action for the next few weeks, but Anthony Joshua has said he is ready and willing to step in.
There were just two weeks to go until the official undisputed fight on February 17 when news emerged that Fury had been cut by one of his sparring partners and the biggest night in the heavyweight divisions for 25 years was to be postponed.
A new date was hastily announced for May 18, which some believe is too early for Fury, and now the countdown to the crowning of a new four-belt king is on once more.
Since then, Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority Turki Alalshikh has revealed that there will be a forfeit to the tune of $10 million to any boxer who pulls out now and that if it is Fury, Usyk will be able to choose to fight whoever he wants.
Despite the tight turnaround between those two potential fights, his promoter Eddie Hearn has told TalkSport the Brit would be ready even though he has lost twice to Usyk before.
“The amazing thing with Anthony is he will be boxing four times in 11 months, which has been brilliant for him.
“It’s so refreshing for his career after so many periods of inactivity through COVID and dealing with big stadium fights and mandatory obligations and people messing around.
“He will need a rest at some point, but if he comes through Ngannou well and that opportunity presents itself, I would think he’d be ready to fight Fury or Usyk.”
The fight is indeed great insurance in case Fury’s cut is not ready in time, and is one fans would be more than happy to see.
