World heavyweight title contender Joe Joyce has extended his contract with Queensberry Promotions.
The 35-year-old ‘Juggernaut’, managed by Sam Jones, (S-Jam Boxing) teamed up with Frank Warren and the promotional outfit in 2019. Five fights later, which includes wins over Daniel Dubois and Carlos Takam, and Joyce isclosing in on a world title opportunity.
His win over Takam last month cemented his status as the World Boxing Organisation’s number two contender. WBO champion Anthony Joshua defends the title, and two others, next month against mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk. Joyce could find himself fighting for the title next year.
“I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be extending my promotional deal with Queensberry,” said Joyce.
“I believe with my management S-Jam, Queensberry and BT Sport I’m in the right place to achieve my dreams and become a World Champion.”
Warren added: “I am delighted Joe has agreed a long-term contract renewal with us at Queensberry for the period of time where we are confident he will be crowned WBO world champion.
“He hasn’t put a foot – or a fist – wrong since teaming up with us and he is now getting the exposure and attention his boxing exploits deserve.
“We worked very hard in lobbying the WBO to recognise Joe as No.2 in the world rankings and the governing body will enforce the mandatory challenge to the winner of Joshua-Usyk in 2022.”
