Mexican featherweight Julio Ceja has been released from hospital following his fight against Mark Magsayo on Saturday.
The two fighters featured on the Manny Pacquiao-Yordenis Ugas undercard in Las Vegas and saw Ceja knocked out in round 10. The former two-weight world title challenger was down in the first round before a sustained assault dropped his unbeaten Filipino opponent in round 5. Matters concluded in the 10th when Ceja was on the end of a brutal two-punch knockout.
After receiving immediate medical attention Ceja was taken to a hospital where he was kept overnight. Thankfully the Mexican warrior has been released and will now travel home for treatment.
Yesterday evening WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman wrote on Twitter: “Have just spoken with Duane Ford who supervised last night event and has been in close contact with Bob Bennett about Julio Ceja and the report is favourable as there is no brain bleed but an orbital fracture. The medical attention is top of the top. Exemplary performance by NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission).”
Early this morning Sulaiman wrote: “Boxing is the greatest demonstration of brotherhood and humanity. Just received this message from Mark Magsayo who is constant communication with Julio Ceja and will now be brothers for life.”
Sulaiman’s screenshot showed the message from Magsayo which read, “I finish talking to Julio Ceja. I called him, he is okay now and out the hospital. I have a new amigo.”
Everyone at Boxing Social wishes Julio Ceja a speedy recovery.
