Julio Cesar Chavez has weighed in with a prediction for the hotly anticipated fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
After a lengthy negotiation process it was finally confirmed that the two young stars would lock horns in Las Vegas on April 22nd.
And Chavez told ES News that he believes ‘King Ry’ will spring the upset in just under two month’s time.
“It’s a great fight, and I’m leaning towards Garcia, because he’s bigger and he hits harder.”
Known as one of the hardest pound for pound puncher’s in the sport, Davis would surely take exception to Chavez’ view that Garcia is the one with superior power
The fight had originally been touted for April 15, but was delayed by one week, reportedly to allow more time for promotion as the negotiation process dragged on.
The contest will take place at a catchweight of 136 pounds catchweight and is without doubt one of the biggest commercial fights in the entire sport.
A disagreement between the two camps over the rematch clause had threatened to scupper the fight, but this was resolved earlier this month after PBC finally conceded that Golden Boy could serve as the lead promoter for a second meeting if Garcia wins.
The rematch clause only exists for ‘Tank.‘ Garcia has not been afforded the same luxury, so knows he will only get one shot at toppling the Baltimore puncher in what is by far the biggest fight of either man’s professional career to date.
There were fears that Davis’ guilty plea in relation to a hit and run case could derail the fight, however his sentencing is set for May 5, which means it will not get in the way of him fighting this April.
