Julio Cesar Martinez Eyes World Title Comeback After Signing With Wise Owl Boxing

Former WBC flyweight champion Julio César Martínez has officially signed a management deal with Wise Owl Boxing, the camp announced Wednesday. The move marks a new chapter for “El Rey,” who has been inactive since his May 31 loss to Gerardo Valenzuela Muñoz in Mexicali.

Martínez (20-4, 3 NCs, 15 KOs) is aiming to rebuild momentum in the super flyweight division under the guidance of Mark Habibi, co-managed alongside Miguel Lopez. The team’s mission is clear — get Martínez back to the top, and put him in line for another world title run.

“We’re very excited about this signing,” said Habibi. “Julio Cesar Martinez is a proven world champion with a massive fan base and a style that fans love. He brings energy, personality, and excitement every time he steps into the ring.”

“Our goal is clear to bring him back to the championship level and help him regain a world title.”

Martínez’s career has seen highs and lows. The 29 year old from Mexico City ruled the WBC flyweight division from December 2019 until his move to super flyweight. During his reign, he successfully defended his belt seven times over four plus years, though injuries, illnesses, and weight management issues slowed his momentum.

He also overcame a temporary suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 2024, stemming from a positive test following his win over Angelino Cordova. That episode is now part of his past and has helped reinforce his focus and discipline in the ring.

Wise Owl Boxing, though a relatively new management outfit, offers Martínez a personalized plan to return to world class competition. With Habibi and Lopez at the helm, the expectation is that Martínez will be positioned for high profile bouts, bringing him back into the conversation for major world titles in the 115-pound division.

Fans and analysts alike are watching closely, eager to see if Martínez can reclaim his place among boxing’s elite and continue his legacy as one of Mexico’s most explosive fighters in recent years.
