Katie Taylor Set For Huge Rematch With Historic Twist

It seems that Katie Taylor could be working on a rematch with a former opponent at a venue that would provide a historic twist.

It was thought that Taylor might again look to fight back home in Dublin after the success of her last fight there against Chantelle Cameron which saw her regain her titles having lost against the same opponent in their first fight.

Instead, Taylor and Katie Serrano are anticipated to collide in what would be the first boxing match at the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas in early June.

Initially, a potential trilogy with Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena was considered for May 25, but those plans have waned, as have hopes for a Croke Park date for the 2012 Olympic champion.

Eddie Hearn has instead initiated discussions with Serrano’s team who have indicated they are interested in a rematch with Taylor.

According to RTE, Hearn believes this is the best fight right now for Taylor.

“I think it is the fight that makes sense for Katie Taylor. A State-side fight is definitely appealing after the success of their fight at Madison Square Garden. Katie wants the biggest fights.”

In their first fight, Serrano faced a contentious split decision loss to Taylor in April 2022 at a packed Madison Square Garden in New York when the world lightweight titles up for grabs.

Just five months later, Serrano captured the WBO, WBC, IBF, and IBO world featherweight titles by defeating Sarah Mahfoud, then added the WBA version with a win over Erika Cruz Hernandez.

Following a freak injury that prevented her from competing in a homecoming bout against Nina Meinke last month, Serrano is now eager for a swift return to the ring.
