It has been reported that there will be a record-breaking purse bid for the upcoming fight between Kate Taylor and Amanda Serrano that is scheduled for the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight in July.
Taylor is set to defend her five super lightweight world titles at the vast Arlington Stadium in Texas on July 20 when she faces off against former foe Serrano. The night will be topped by Paul and Tyson having their much talked about exhibition match and is set to be the highest earning contest of both women’s careers.
On that night, the spotlight will be firmly fixed on the $1.2 billion arena, home to the Dallas Cowboys, where the much-anticipated rematch between the London Olympic champion and the Puerto Rican-born, Brooklyn-based Serrano, the current undisputed world featherweight champion, will take place.
This bout is poised to become the richest-ever fight in women’s professional boxing with the Irish Telegraph reporting that Taylor could well pocket an impressive estimated purse of six million dollars.
After initially losing the first fight, the Irish hero managed to exact revenge on Cameron in November thereby achieving undisputed status in a second weight division following her earlier success at lightweight.
Serrano’s plans for a significant homecoming fight in March were dashed due to a freak eye injury, leading to the cancellation of the bout on the night of the event.
The upcoming showdown between Taylor and Serrano will be fought over 10 two-minute rounds, despite Serrano’s recent history of competing in three-minute rounds in world title bouts.
