Keyshawn Davis is set to face off against Gustavo Daniel Lemos tomorrow night in Norfolk, United States. However in today’s final weigh-in, Lemos has missed the weight limit by a significant amount, putting the fight into doubt.
Davis boats an amateur career record of 80-13, winning an Olympic Silver medal in the 2020 games along the way.
The American is certainaly not short of any confidence, he has claimed that he will be ‘the face of boxing’ within the next few years.
Despite being only eleven fights into the professional ranks, he has grabbed the attention of some of the most recognisable names in the lightweight division.
Just this week WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who also claims to be ‘the face of boxing’, leaked his DM’s with ‘The Businessman’.
Moreover, he has clashed with WBA junior welterweight champion, Teofimo Lopez many times.
Lemos has a record of 29-1, with his only defeat coming in a controversial decision against Richardson Hitchins.
Despite this loss, if the fight takes place, he should provide Davis with the toughest fight of his career to date.
Furthermore, the winner of this fight could face WBO champion Denys Berinchyk.
However, Lemos weighed in at 141.4lbs, missing the agreed 135lbs limit by a mammoth 6.4lbs.
Whilst many will feel the fight should be pulled, Davis has said he wants to fight to still take place.
”I was happy, I’m the one getting paid more money (now). The show must go on.”
It looks like the fight will take place, which now potentially makes the fight even tougher for the future proclaimed ‘face of boxing’.
Lemos will have to pay a financial penalty and will have to make sure he meets the re-hydration limit in the morning.
There are plenty of big names in the division awaiting the winner.
After an altercation on social media, Keyshawn Davis will likely want to fight Gervonta Davis.
Moreover, the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson also hold title belts in the division.
Keyshawn Davis is adamant that he still wants to fight Gustavo Lemos tomorrow night despite Lemos coming in 6.4lbs overweight: “I was happy, I’m the one getting paid more money [now]. The show must go on.”
