Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk says that the Ukrainian maestro’s mandatory title fight with WBA Super, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua could be signed this week.
With the boxing world still reeling from the collapse of Joshua’s undisputed heavyweight title bout with WBC king Tyson Fury, ‘AJ’ is moving ahead with a fight against WBO No.1 contender Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium whilst the ‘Gypsy King’ engages in his trilogy clash with Deontay Wilder.
Promoter Krassyuk says there should be concrete news on a Joshua-Usyk fight imminently. Yahoo Sports later reported that the fight would take place on September 25.
“We hope that we will sign the contract by the end of the week,” Krassyuk told Sky Sports. “Most of the issues have been coordinated and agreed.
“Usyk’s confidence is at sky level. He is so thirsty to become the champ at heavyweight – then proceed to travelling to Mars after he collects all the belts!”
Joshua is currently a 2/5 favourite with Betfred, with Usyk priced at 2/1 and the draw available at 25/1.
