Legendary heavyweight Lennox Lewis has weighed in with some analysis on a potential clash between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
The two young stars are tipped to lock horns on April 15th in Las Vegas, although there has been no official announcement at the time of writing.
And Lewis told ES News that, he’s leaning towards Davis, as he’s the more proven fighter of the two.
“Gervonta’s been showing how great he is and what type of boxer he is – he’s a knockout artist. So he’s shown himself to me.”
“Ryan Garcia, he still needs to show himself to me. But it’s going to be a great fight.”
Davis and Garcia have gone back on social media for months, and a fight between the two is widely regarded as one of the biggest to be made in the sport.
Issues had arose over the broadcasting rights of a potential rematch, with a clause in place should Garcia defeat Davis, however recent reports suggest this has been resolved.
There were also fears that an ongoing hit and run case for Davis could put the fight in jeopardy, though news broke that the Baltimore puncher would not be sentenced until May 5th, meaning he would be available for the touted date of April 15th.
However, journalist Dan Rafael reported last night that, according to his sources, the blockbuster fight was still not done.
This runs contrary to what Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, claimed on Twitter last week, where he stated that “everything was now agreed.”
Fans will have to wait with bated breath to find out if they are going to be once again starved of one of the big fights, as seems to be so often the case.
